Camo Color Block

Yesterday I had to go to the immigration office here in Monterrey, so I decided to keep it patriotic with some camo pants and a punch of red with my bag. It´s the little things that inspire me! I also wore my favorite color block sweater to balance out the crazy camo on bottom, toning everything down with minimal accessories. Don´t get me wrong, I love fashion, but sometimes you have to be practical. When I wear lots of rings and bracelets to work, I usually end up taking them all off after a half hour, tops.

Anyways, I am looking foward to the weekend as always! Anyone have any noteworthy plans? I sure don´t (not yet!), but I would love to hear about yours:)

Ayer tuve que ir a la oficina de migracion aqui en Monterrey, entonces me fui con el tema patriotica y me puse mis pantalones camo con una bolsa roja. Tan simple mi insíracion del dia 🙂 Tambien me puse mi sueter preferido de “color block” para balancear el estampado loco del camo y ademas, me puse poquitos accesorios. Me fascina la moda pero una vez en cuando tienes que ser practico. Cuando yo pongo anillos y aretes para el trabajo siempre termino quitando todo despues de media hora.

Bueno, estoy emocionada como siempre para el fin de semana! Alguien tiene algun plan especial para su fin? Yo no tengo aun pero quiero saber de los planes de ustedes:)

Better End of the Deal

I always get so excited when high-end designers collaborate with fast fashion stores. H&M was a pioneer in these partnerships and they are still going strong. When these lines do launch, it usually requires a road trip and asking for vacation time because of where I live. H&M’s last designer collaboration was with Maison Martin Margiela, and when it launched, I wishfully read several bloggers’ reviews showcasing their purchases (like The Life Styled or Song of Style) and was really impressed with the line. Many people who had access to an H&M got their paws on the pieces, but those who had to wait, like myself, got the better end of the deal. Why? Because I got this beautiful, thick, cozy sweater dress for almost 60% off of the original price. I wore it here with some sneakers and tights for a casual evening with friends, but you could definitely dress this up with some booties and a pair of statement earrings.

Siempre me emociono cuando los diseñadores colaboran con las tiendas. H&M fue uno de los originales con asociacion y todavia siguen con mucha fuerza. Cuando esas lineas se lanzan, normalmente requiere un viaje en carretera o pedir vacaciones porque vivo en un lugar cero accesible. La ultima colaboracion fue con Maison Martin Margiela y cuando se lanzo, lei varios posts de diferentes bloggers con envidia mientras que enseñaron sus compras (como The Life Styled o Song of Style) y me encanto la linea. Mucha gente tenia aceso a un H&M para comprar las piezas, pero los que tenian que esperar, como yo, les salio mejor. Por que? Porque compre este vestido hermoso, grueso, acogedor con un 60% de descuento del precio original. Aqui lo puse con unos tenis y mallas durante la tarde, pero tambien puedes arreglar el vestido con unos botines con tacón y unos aretes brillantes.

One of the Mexican cultural traditions I love most is the posada, which is probably like any other holiday/Christmas party you have attended. Except in Mexico, you have posadas with everyone you associate yourself with: the office, your work friends, your team at work, your team you play soccer with on Tuesdays, you friends from high school you meet for coffee on Wednesdays, your group of friends you play cards with on Thursdays, the friends you go out with on Fridays and Saturdays, and your friends you go to the movies with on Sundays.

This Saturday, I had my posada with my group of best girlfriends, whom I get together with every Wednesday for coffee, dinner, etc. These girls have grown to be some of my closest friends and are definitely my family here in Mexico. This year we were missing a few, but to celebrate the holidays, we went to our favorite restaurant, La Nacional, for a big feast. Since the Spring season decided to show its face that day, I wore a lace dress I have had for years, and to tone down the sweetness, I added a studded clutch and motorcycle shooties.

Una de las tradiciones mexicanas que me encanta es la posada, que probablemente es como cualquier fiesta navideña que has asistido, pero en Mexico tienes posada con todos los grupos con quien te acosias: la oficna, tus amigos en la oficina, tu equipo del trabajo, tu equipo con quien juegas futbol los martes, tus amigos de la prepa con quien juntas los miercoles, los amigos con quien te juntas para jugar cartas los jueves, los amigos con quien sales los viernes y sabados y los amigos con quien te vas al cine los domingos.

Este sabado, tuve la posada de mis mejores amigas, con quienes me junto todos los miercoles para tomar un cafe o cenar. Estas niñas son de mis mejores amigas de toda la vida y han formado parte de mi familia aqui en Mexico, Aunque nos faltaron algunas, festejamos la temprada navideña con una comida en La Nacional. Ese dia el clima se sintio como la primavera, entonces me puse un vestido de encaje con una bolsa de tachones y unos botines-zapatos motociclistas.

Winter Essential: Leopard Coat

I have been waiting patiently to wear this jacket, and after a cold snap, I was finally able to! Not only am I wearing this essential winter piece, I am also wearing some other important wardrobe essentials:

1. Faux fur leopard coat: For me leopard is a neutral. A few years ago this print was only worn if you were working a street corner, but now it has made it’s way to being a fashion staple. It pulls together SO many outfits and goes with EVERYTHING. In the winter, a faux fur leopard coat adds instant glamour to any outfit.

2. Tie-neck blouse: These blouses are great because they are classic enough for the office, yet have enough volume to take you to an after-work gathering. For example, you can tie a bow at your neck during the day and afterwards let them loose to show a little more skin. Also, most of them are often made of lightweight fabrics like chiffon, giving them more movement than a stiff button down.

3. Leather leggings: If you read my blog, you know how much I love leather. The texture of the leather adds edge and in my opinion dresses up your look more so than regular leggings.

4. Black pumps: When I say pumps, I don’t mean the ones with huge platforms and 6 inch heels. I am talking about a more feminine, toned-down version like the ones I am wearing. The heel is not too high for work and the toe is not too pointed so you can pair them with dresses, skirts and skinny jeans on the weekends.

He estado esperando con paciencia para ponerme este abrigo y despues de un frente frio, por fin pude! No solo tengo puesto esa pieza esencial, tambien tengo otras piezas esenciales para tu guardarropa. 

1. Abrigo peluche (sintetico) de animal print: Yo considero el animal print como un color neutral. Hace muchos años, este estampado fue para gente trabajando en la esquina, pero ahora es mas comercial y algo esencial para tu guardarropa. El animal print es el toque especial para tantos outfits y combina con TODO. En el invierno, un abrigo sintetico de peluche de animal print agrega glamour instantaneo a tu look. 

2. Blusa “tie-neck”: Estas blusas son excelente porque son suficientes clasicas para la oficina pero tienen bastante volumen para llevarte a una reunion despues del trabajo. Por ejemplo, puedes amarrar el moño en el dia y soltarlo en la noche para enseñare un poco mas de piel. Tambien la mayoria son hechas de tela ligera como chiffon, y eso les da mas moviemiento que una camisa tiesa de botones. 

3. Leggings de piel: Si lees mi blog, sabes como me encanta el piel. La textura del piel agrega “edge” e en mi opinion personal se arregla tu outfit mas que leggings normales. 

4. Pumps negros:  Cuando yo digo pumpos, no me refiero a los que tienen una plataforma gigantesca con tacones de 6 pulgadas. Mas bien me refiero a una version mas femenina como los que tengo en las fotos. El tacon no es tan alto, asi que los puedes usar para la oficina, y el punto no es tan picudo para que los puedes poner con vestidos, faldas y skinny jeans en los fines de semana.

The holidays are my favorite time of year without a doubt. The days leading up to Christmas are just electrifying. I am counting down the days to go spend an entire week with my family, catch up with life-long friends, wrap presents and watch Christmas movies under piles of blankets with my dogs. Although winter has not yet officially arrived in Mexico, I got into the holiday spirit by wearing a new forest green blouse and a gold sequined hat, which is the perfect accessory for this time of year.

La temprada navideña es mi epoca favorita del año. Los dias antes de la navidad son tan emocionantes. Estoy contando los dias para llegar a mi casa para estar con mi familia, ver amigos de toda la vida, envolver regalos y ver peliculas navideñas abajo de cobihas con mis perritos. Aunque el invierno no ha llegado a Mexico oficialmente, me puse en el espiritu navideño con una blusa verde y un gorrito con lentijuelas doradas, que es el accesorio perfecto para esta temporada. 

Bordeaux Glow

This past weekend I went home to visit family, and I was so happy to escape for a night with my best friends from high school. I paired my favorite oxblood pants with a shirt/sweater that has sheer paneling for dinner at Dallas staple Mi Cocina. There really isn’t much to this outfit, but when you add fun bracelets, a statement necklace, studs and leopard print, the pants and shirt completely different direction. Accessories give so much personality to your overall look, which is something I learned while working at Intermix a few years ago. In between my hair, the chesnut hardwood floors, and my pants, these photos have a nice bordeaux glow to them.

Este fin pasado me fui a mi casa para visitar mis papas y estuve tan feliz a escaparme una noche para estar con mis amigas de la prepa. Me vesti en mis pantalones favoritos de piel en color “oxblood” combinado con una blusa/sueter que tiene paneles de tela transperente para la cena en el famoso Mi Cocina. No tiene mucho chiste este outfit, pero con unas pulseras divertidas, un collar brillante, los tachones y estampado de animal, los pantalones y la camisa toman otra direccion. Accesorios agregan mucha personalidad a tu look general, algo que aprendi trabajando en Intermix hace unos años. Entre mi pelo, el color castaño de los pisos y mis pantalones, las fotos tienen un brillo rojo bonito.

Red-White-and-Blue is the New Black

Keeping with the red-white-and-blue theme this week, I wore this outfit to the office (with a pashmina to cover the shoulder cut-outs :p) to continue showing my patriotic pride. Even though I was not present on Election Day, something about wearing nautical blue stripes and a red bag made me  feel part of such an important time for my home country (I say “home” because Mexico is my adopted country 🙂 ).

I love wearing this patent leather skirt to work because it is unexpected, and pairing it with a simple striped shirt tones it down a bit. I can’t stress enough that dressing professional means you have to wear black pants, a white button down and pumps (unless you are in an extremely conservative work environment). Step out of your comfort zone and have fun with fashion!

Siguiendo con el tema de rojo, blanco y azul esta semana, me puse este outfit para la oficina (con una pashmina para tapar los hombros :p) para continuar mostrando mi orgullo patriotico. Aunque no estuve en el dia de elecciones, algo de las rayas azules de marinero y la bolsa roja me hacen sentir parte de un tiempo muy importante para mi pais (aunque Mexico es mi pais adoptado 🙂 ).

Me encanta poner esta falda de piel charol para trabajar porque no esperas ese detalle y combinarla con una camisa sencilla de rayas lo hace menos ruidoso. No puedo enfatizar suficientes veces que vestir profesional no significa que tienes que poner pantalon negro, camisa de botones blanco y tacones (al menos que estas en un ambiente laboral muy conservador). Salganse de sus zonas de comfort y diviertanse con la moda!

Sequins and Champagne

One of our best friends is moving to Milan to do her master’s, so we threw her a farewell party fit for Donatella Versace complete with champagne and our most elegant attire. I wore one of my favorite dresses from Target (her favorite store) and every sparkly accessory I own to keep with the theme. The evening bubbled with glamour and was the perfect send-off for our friend. Thank you to Juan and Enrique for being such wonderful hosts! Ciao ciao, Flaka!

Una de nuestras mejoras amigas se va a Milan para hacer su maestria y le hicimos una despedida adecuada para Donatella Versace con champaña y nuestras mejoras prendas. Me puse uno de mis vestidos preferidos de Target (su tienda preferida) y todos los accesorios brillantes que tengo para seguir con el tema. La noche fue llena de burbujas glamourosas y fue la despedida perfecta para nuestra amiga. Gracias a Juan y Enrique por ser excelentes anfitriones! Ciao ciao, Flaka!

Flaka, obviamente ni pude hablar en tu fiesta jajaja, pero muchas gracias por tu amistad y todas las buenas memorias que hemos hecho juntas. Definitivamente has sido una persona muy distinta en mi vida y te agradezco por todos los consejos (personales y profesionales), aventuras, apoyo, enseñanzas, risas, y sobre todo por ser un ejemplo para mi. Te deseo lo mejor en Milan y se que vas a hacer un giro al mundo. Te quiero y see you in Milan, baby 😉

Black Out

My mom gave me this top a few years ago and is one of my favorites because of all the intricate embroidery and beading. Since brocade and ornate embellishments are big fall trends this year, this was the perfect piece to pull out of my closet and toughen up with texturized leggings, an oversized clutch and my favorite motorcycle shoeties (shoes + booties). All black is one of my favorite looks, but to keep it from getting boring, you can add texture and your favorite trimmings to make it your own.

Mi mama me regalo esta blusa hace unos años y es una de mis piezas favoritas que tengo por el bordado y adorno intricado. Ahora que el brocado y detalles adornados estan de moda este año, esta blusa fue la prenda perfecta para sacar de mi closet y agregar detalles mas duros como leggings texturizados, un clutch grande y mis preferidos zapatos-botines motociclistas.Vestir en puro negro es uno de mis looks favoritos, pero para evitar que sea aburrido, puedes agregar textura y tus adornos favoritos para que se refleja tu estilo peronal.
