I confess. I definitely playing big-time favorites with the patchwork clutch, but it is hard not to do. Every time I put an outfit together, it seems so incomplete without my Parisian purse. Another recurring theme here on my blog is balance because I love to play with it. Normally lace is a fabric reserved for special, evening occasions because it is elegant and feminine, but I like to make it more daytime-appropriate by pairing it with a pair of boyfriend jeans or cargo pants like I do here. The daintiness of the lace definitely makes a pair of cargo pants more feminine and more appealing.

I wore this outfit to a nice little lunch with friends to a restaurant located inside of a car repair shop, El Taller Vegánico. The food was awesome, but what I can´t stop talking about the fact that I ate inside of an auto shop! Now, how many of you can say that?

Confieso. Estoy jugando favoritos con esta bolsa adornado, pero es dificil no hacerlo. Cada vez que me visto, el outfit no se ve completo si no traigo mi compra parisiana. Otro tema recurrente aqui en el blog es balance porque me encanta jugar con el. Normalmente encaje es una tela reservada para ocasiones especiales en la noche por ser una tela elegante y femenino, pero a mi me gusta hacerlo más para el día, combinándolo con los pantalones de mezclilla estilo “boyfriend” o unos pantalones cargo como tengo puesta aquí. La delicadeza del encaje hace que los pantolones cargo se ven más femeninos y atractivos.

Yo puse este outfit para una comidita con amigas en un restaurante que está ubicado adentro de un taller de carros, El Taller Vegánico. La comida está deliciosa, pero lo que no puedo dejar de comentar a la gente es que comí adentro de un taller. Ahora quien puede decir que han comido adentro de un taller?

Table for One, Please

When you are born in Paris, Texas, traveling to the original Paris is a BIG dream. So, since I am a Parisian-Texan, I decided it was time to start turning that dream into a reality. I started putting cash back and asking if friends they were interested in hopping over the pond, but because of different commitments and other obligations they had, I was on my own. So at the end of January, I booked a ticket to Paris, France. It would be my first time to travel alone, first time to visit Paris and first time to visit Europe in 8 years. I was thrilled, terrified, giddy and nervous all at the same time. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into, but it did not matter because I was going to Paris!

I could not have picked a more perfect city to travel to alone. After all, I have dreamed about going to Paris for years, so I was able to play out my dream exactly how I had imagined, eating as many croissants and pan au chocolat along the way. If any of you have every doubted traveling alone, don´t think twice. You already learn so much from traveling, but when you do it alone, your grow exponentially. I wanted to share some life lessons I learned from my solo voyage, which I have started to apply in my routine back home:

1) Treat yourself. Since I was on vacation, each night I treated myself to a delicious dinner and wine at a nice restaurant. Normally I save such activities for special occasions, like a friend´s birthday or an engagement celebration, but I was reminded that it is equally important to do those types of things for yourself every once in a while.

2) Enjoy your company. Most of my time in France was spent on my own, so I had no choice but enjoy my company. Yes, at times I felt lonely, but for the most part, I enjoyed the time to think and just soak in everything that I was seeing and learning. A lot of people are panicked by the thought of eating at a restaurant alone, but you have to get over what other restaurant-goers might be thinking. Who cares what people you will never see again in your life will think? You are enjoying a delicious meal with what better company than yourself.

3) Travel more. You all know how much I like to shop, but traveling to Paris made me realize that I should be spending less money on things, and more money on the experiences like travel, which are priceless.

4) Disconnect. Besides checking Instagram and Facebook once per day and sharing the typical Eiffel tower photo, I had no idea what was going on back home, at work or with anybody else´s life for a week and a half, and it was nice. Instead of wasting downtime on scrolling through Instagram, I was able to enjoy the city even more without any distractions.

5) Dream big. Traveling alone and navigating a big city like Paris by yourself is a big confidence booster. As soon as I stepped foot in Paris, the Eiffel tower was obviously my first stop, and if I wanted to see it, I had to figure out how to get there. I miraculously figured out the metro system and thanks to the well-signaled Trocadero metro stop, I found the Eiffel Tower without a bump in the road. And the same applies with any dream. If you want to get there, you will find a way to make it happen. If you can dream it, you can do it!

Cuando eres de Paris, Texas, viajando a Paris, Francia es un sueño MUY grande. Entonces, por ser una Parisiana-Tejana, decidí que fue la hora para cristalizar ese sueño. Empecé a juntar efectivo y preguntar a mis amigas si querían ir, pero por otros compromisos que tenían, no más estuve yo apuntada para el viaje.  Entonces al finales de enero, compré un boleto a Paris, Francia. Sería mi primera vez de viajar sola, primera vez para visitar Paris y mi primera vez de visitar Europa después de 8 años. Me sentí emocionada, tenía miedo, feliz y nerviosa al mismo tiempo. No tenía la menor idea que estaba haciendo, pero no importaba, me iba a Paris!

No pudiera escogido mejor ciudad para viajara sola. Yo había soñado de Paris por años, entonces pude vivir mi sueño exactamente como lo imaginaba, comiendo la cantidad de croissants y pan au chocolat que quería durante el viaje. Si en algún momento has dudado viajar solo, no lo piensas ni dos veces. Ya aprendes mucho de viajar, pero cuando lo haces solo, te creces exponencialmente más . Quería compartirles algunas lecciones de la vida que aprendí en mi voyage solo, cuales ya empecé a aplicar en mi rutina aqui en mi cada:

1) Chíflate. Por estar de vacaciones, cada noche me chiflé con una cena deliciosa y vino en un buen restaurant. Normalente hago eso en ocasiones especials, como el cumpleaños de un amigo o para un festejo de anillo, pero la experiencia me acrodó que es igual de importante de hacer esos tipos de cosas para tu mismo una vez en cuando.

2) Disfruta tu compañía. La mayroía de mi tiempo en Francia, me la pase sola, asi que no tuve otra opción más que disfrutar mi compañía. Si, hubo momentos dónde me senti sola, pero la verdad disfruté mi tiempo para pensar y absorber todo que estaba viendo y aprendiendo. A mucha gente les da pánico de comer en un restaurante sólo, pero hay que superar lo que otra gente puede estar pensando. Que te importa que piensa la gente que jamás volverás a ver en la vida? Tú estás disfrutando una deliciosa comida con que mejor compañía que tu mismo!

3) Viaja más. Todos saben que me gusta ir de compras, pero viajando a Paris me hizo dar cuenta que debo de gastar menos dinero en cosas y más dinero en experiencias como viajes, cuales no tienen precio. 

4) Desconéctate. Aparte de checar Instagram y Facebook una vez al día y compartir la típica foto enfrente de la torre Eiffel, no tenía la menor idea de que estaba pasando con mis amigos, ni en el trabajo ni la vida de nadie por una semana y media, y se sintipo increible. En vez de estar perdiendo mi tiempo viendo fotos en Instagram, podía disfrutar la ciudad aun más sin esas distracciones.

5) Sueña en grande. Viajar sola y navegar una ciudad grande como Paris te aumenta mucho tu autoestima. El momento que pisé en Paris, mi primer parada obviamente fue la torre Eiffel, y si quería verlo, tenía que encontrar la manera de llegar. Fue un milagro que aprendí rápido el sistema del metro y gracias a la parada bien señalada de Trocadero, encontré la torre sin problema. Y lo mismo aplica con cualquier sueño. Si quieres llegar al realizar un sueño, tienes que encontrar la manera para hacerlo. Si lo puedes soñar, lo puedes hacer!

I love Isabel Marant´s  bohemian, effortless and ethnic- inspired design aesthetic. It is no surprise she has quite the following that has propelled her into a global brand. But as much as I love her work, I can´t get behind the price tag. In all honesty, I think her pieces are well-worth the money because they are high-quality, but I get paid in pesos, so that´s not happening any time soon. Her collection came and went last year at H&M, and I missed out out on all the fun and decided I wasn´t meant to own anything designed by her.

That is until I was in Paris, coincidentally the hometown of the French designer, roaming through the Marais district after my guided tour. A buttery, brown leather Balenciaga bag perched in the window of a tiny shop caught my eye, and I decided to stop in. It turns out the store resold designer pieces in mint condition for a fraction of the retail price. The girl who owned and ran the boutique was so sweet and helpful, and I if I lived in Paris, her and I would be great friends. After telling me the price of the Balenciaga bag, she asked me what size shoe I wore. I told her a 38 in European sizes and she pulled out these Isabel fringe boots, and said, “I just got these in. The owner only wore them once new and they are your size. Do you like them?” I didn´t like the boots, I loved them. They are shaped perfectly, between the slouch of the boot and the way they hit right below the knee, they are ultra-flattering. And on top of that, the fringe running all the way up the sides adds so much texture and movement.

Since I still had about six days left in Paris and was not quite ready to throw down on shopping, I decided to sleep on it. And I slept on it and woke up the next day to go directly to Sara´s store. How could I pass up such beautiful boots designed by one of my favorite Parisian designers and sold at a store in Paris for an eighth of what the boot actually costs? I couldn´t be happier with my purchase, and they were definitely the perfect souvenir to bring home from Paris. Last week´s weather was enjoyably mild, and I jumped at the chance to wear my black suede boots, even if we are in in the middle of spring. Life´s too short not to wear what you want, when you want!

Me encanta el estético bohemio, cómodo y étnico de los diseños de Isabel Marant, y no me soprende que tiene un grupo de seguidores que le han impulsado ser una marca global. Pero tanto como amo su trabajo, no puedo con el precio. Siendo sincera, creo que sus piezas valen la pena por la calidad, pero a mi me pagan en pesos entonces eso no va a pasar en el corto plazo. Su colección en H&M vino y se fue y no conseguí nada entonces decidí que no era parte de mi destino tener algo diseñado por ella.

Pero esto fue antes que estuve en Paris, la ciudad natal de la diseñadora francesa, caminando por el distrito Marais despúes de mi tour. Una bolsa hermosa de Balenciaga en la ventana de una tienda me captó la atención y entré. Resultó que la tienda revendió piezas de marca en buenas condiciones por una fracción de su precio orginal. La dueña de la tienda fue tan linda y sé que si yo vivía en Paris, ella y yo seríamos gran amigas. Después de decirme el precio de la bolsa Balenciaga, me preguntó mi calzado. Le dije que calzo 38 en zapatos eurpoeos y ella sacó estas botas de Isabel Marant y me dijo, “Acaba de recibir estas. La dueña sólo las puso una vez y están en tu tamaño. Te gustan?” No me gustaron, me encantaron. Tienen excelente forma, entre entre el slouch y cómo llegan justo abajo de la rodilla, te favorecen mucho. Además, los flecos que van de arriba para abajo les dan textura y mucho movimiento.

Pero aun me quedaron seis días en Paris y no estaba lista para gastar en compras, entonces decidí en dormir  y pensar sobre la decisión. Y dormí y me desperté para irme directamente a la tienda de Sara. Cómo no puedo comprar estas hermosas botas diseñadas por una de mis diseñadoras preferidas parisinas y vendidas en una tienda en Paris por un octavo del precio original? No puedo estar más feliz con mi compra y definitivamente fueron el recuerdo perfecto del viaje a Paris. La semana pasada, el clima estuvo muy agusto, entonces claro que me puse mis botas de gamusa, aunque estamos de la mitad de primavera. La vida es demasiado corta para no poner lo que quieres cuando quieres!

Le Touriste

Millions of books and blog posts have been written about tourist attractions in Paris, so I of course have to put in my two cents. Since Paris is the most visited city in the world, I am sure most of you have already been there, done that, but for those of you that haven´t, I wanted to share my favorite attractions because there is so much to take in and you really do have to choose when you are there. I highly recommend downloading TripAdvisor´s Paris city guide app, which has great recommendations for tourist attractions, restaurants, shopping and an awesome navigator to lead you anywhere, all without being connected to the internet (just make sure you download the app, and then download the city before turning off your internet connection). And for those of you that have been there, done that in Paris, I hope this post brings you back to the wonderful memories you made in this inspiring city!

Hay millones de libros y posts escritos sobre los destinos turísticos en Paris, y claro que tengo que compartir los míos. Por ser la ciudad más visitada en el mundo, seguramente ustedes ya conocen estos lugares, pero para las personas que no conocen Paris o no saben dónde ir cuando se van próximamente, les quería compartir mis destinos favoritos porque no puedes acabar con Paris. Recomiendo mucho que bajan el guía de la aplicación Trip Advisor, que tiene excelentes recomendaciones sobre restaurantes, lugares turísticos, compras y un excelente navegador que te lleva al lugar, todo sin estar conectado al internet (solo tienes que bajar el app y luego bajar la ciudad antes de apagar tu conexión). Vas a tener que escoger los lugares que quieres ver. Y para los que si ya conocen Paris, espero que este post te hace pensar en las bonitas memorias que hiciste en esta ciudad inspiradora.

Espace Dali {while you are in the Montmarte area, I recommend you stop by this Salvador Dalí exhibit to see his graphic work and sculptures. I studied in Madrid one semester, so it was fun to revisit his style / mientras que estás en el área de Montmarte, recomiendo que visitas el espacio de Salvador Dalí para ver sus obras gráficas y esculturas. Yo estudie en Madrid un semestre, entonces estuvo divertido acordarme de su estilo}
